Apex Systems is a global IT services provider, and our staffing practice has an opening for a Product Designer to place at our client, a multinational technology corporation.

Terms: 18-month contract

Overview

As a Product Designer, you will play a key role in shaping design direction and advocating for quality and craft in product offerings. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional partners and the broader design team to create seamless, delightful experiences for users. As part of this design team, you’ll join a group of designers focused on crafting exceptional experiences for one of the world’s leading web browsers. Their mission is to redefine how people interact with the internet by delivering innovative, user-centered solutions that integrate seamlessly with the broader ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Design for Commercial and Core Browser Experiences:
  • Shape the user experience for features tailored to enterprise customers, with a focus on productivity, security, and manageability.
  • Contribute to the design and evolution of core features, emphasizing performance, usability, and seamless integration.
  • Collaborate with lead designers and stakeholders to create solutions that address the unique needs of large organizations using the product(s) at scale.
  • AI Integration & Innovation:
  • Design AI-powered features that enhance enterprise workflows within the browser.
  • Partner with product managers, engineers, and lead designers to define how generative AI can enhance decision-making, automate tasks, and provide contextual assistance in the product.
  • Design System Integration:
  • Apply design system components thoughtfully to ensure consistency, accessibility, and scalability in enterprise features.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of design system principles, offering actionable feedback and proposing enhancements based on enterprise-specific needs.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Work closely with product managers, engineers, researchers, and other designers to deliver thoughtful, user-centered solutions.
  • Participate in design reviews, critiques, and working sessions to share work and incorporate feedback into iterations and execution plans.
  • Rapid Prototyping & Iteration:
  • Create prototypes to explore ideas, validate concepts, and communicate design intent.
  • Iterate quickly based on stakeholder feedback and user research findings.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in product/service design for the web.
  • Strong interaction design skills grounded in user experience fundamentals, including accessibility and inclusive design.
  • Excellent visual/UI design skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and presentation abilities.
  • Proficiency in Figma, including use of design system tokens and components.
  • Familiarity with industry AI assistants.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new workflows, feedback, and evolving project needs.
  • Ability to work under constant deadline constraints.
  • Comfortable working autonomously and collaboratively with other designers.
  • Portfolio for a review with the design lead.
  • Bachelor’s degree in design or related program. A combination of education and experience may substitute for a Bachelors degree.
  • The ideal candidate has browser design experience and/or AI feature design experience, strong systems thinking, and can communicate their design rationale clearly. Someone who has worked on iteration in a small space would be great. Motion design experience is a bonus.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience creating and implementing motion design solutions - such as micro-interactions, transitions, sizzle reels, and animated prototypes - to enhance usability and bring features to life.

Top 3 Must-Haves

  • Figma Expertise: Minimum 5 years; must be highly proficient, not just casual experience.
  • Design Systems Proficiency: Deep understanding of components, tokens, and contributing to design systems; ideally 5+ years.
  • Productivity/Browser/AI Feature Design: Experience designing for productivity software, browsers, or AI features is highly valued; direct browser experience is a top differentiator.
  • Portfolios are required upon submission and should include 3–5 projects.

Typical Task Breakdown

The role involves independent design work, attending design critiques twice a week, collaborating with design leadership, following the design system, and participating in project and status meetings. Work is assigned in cycles (6-7 weeks) with sprints, and designers are expected to deliver within set timelines. Main focus is on developing and iterating AI features for enterprise users, targeting a major milestone post-Ignite conference. Additional work includes core browser UI elements and utility design areas.
